Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral Therapy ( CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and other mental illnesses.

CBT Core Principles:

E

Psychological problems are based, in part, on faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking.

E

Psychological problems are based, in part, on learned patterns of unhelpful behavior.

E

People suffering from psychological problems can learn better ways of coping with them, thereby relieving their symptoms and becoming more effective in their lives.

Research shows that CBT is the most effective form of treatment for those coping with depression and anxiety. CBT through exercises in the sessions, patients/ clients are helped to develop coping skills, whereby they can learn to change their own thinking, problematic emotions and behavior.  At times homework will be incorporated from sessions for patients/ clients.

Eco Therapy

Ecotherapy involves loosely structured activities in nature. Ecotherapy, also called nature therapy or green therapy is a mental health therapy that involves eperiencing nature to remediate mental healthy symptoms and boost overall well- being.

In one study, the results stated that 71 percent of participants reported decreased levels of depression, 90 percent had increased self-esteem, and 71 percent felt less tense after the green walk.

There are many different types of ecotherapy that can be integrated into traditional therapies. Ecotherapy has been proven to help with mental health conditions: depression, anxiety, anger, mood disorders, mood in general, self esteem, stress, substance use and addictions, and PTSD.

Animal Assisted Therapy

When humans interact with animals it has been documented that the animal/ individual interactions promoted the release of serotonin, prolactin and oxytocin  ( physiological changes)- all hormones that can play a part in elevating moods, lowers anxiety, and helps people relax, providing comfort, reducing loneliness, increasing mental stimulation, and reducing initial  resistance that may accompany therapy, hence less stress. Oxytocin in particular has a huge impact on your overall mood. It’s the love hormone that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

A reduced baseline cortisol level is another benefit. Increases feelings of self efficacy and improved self esteem, lower levels of anxiety and depression, improve social and relationship skills, better quality of life, and reduce distress levels while processing traumatic emotions. Research has also linked pet assisted therapy to improve blood flow in people experiencing heart failure.  It may reduce blood pressure for some people.
